Modupue Kidz Cultural Arts Ensemble is a dance and drum company that performs dance theater works with a foundation in African and African American culture. 'Modupue' (pronounced; Mo-Do-pweh) is the Yoruba term meaning, "We Are Greatful" and this expresses the feelings of a family when children are born into it. These are the children and without the youth we'd have no future, no one to carry on our legacy for the ancestors. There for we are very thankful that we have these children who have volunteered to be the torchbearers of our lineage. BIA II follows the same principles and is a more mature level of performers. Modupue ages in range from 3 to 8 and BIA II has ages 9 to 13. At age 14 the child is observed for placement in apprenticeship of an artists in Ballet International Africans.
The company is based off of a humble energy in a space where egos are not tolerated and only openess to learn and express oneself artistically and creatively are tolerated. This has cultivated a wonderful group of performers capable of walking in the shadows of their mother company, Ballet International Africans. The children are trained in traditional African dances, songs, and rhythms. They must attend dance school or outside classes for training in ballet, tap, interpretive and other dance forms. Any child who is accepted into this group will find themselves immersed in the culture, surrounded by a strong family-like support team of professional artists, while being able to perform, and develop into a great performer or rather edu-tainer.
